Flash/Animate R.I.P

Too bad - I guess at least something is happening with it. It might, perhaps free up CreateJS - as in, we could never consider it completely stable if Adobe wanted changes. Nor could it, for instance, be given away or sold as it was tied with Animate.

We just quickly adjusted the ZIM Animate page to encourage Animate users to look at ZIM. Previously it was concentrated on extending Animate. Now it is focused as well on perhaps converting Animate users.

We will take a look at it again when we have time - but let us know what you think.

Added a little note on the front page for Animate users:

Will probably do a video about it too - maybe show how a Timeline Tween can be done in code.

I hope this doesn’t affect ZIM — and maybe it’s time for a ZIM UI

No worries for ZIM as far as I can see. Sad to see the animators using Animate lose a tool - unless something is salvaged.

Potentially, ZIM could gain users if those who worked in ActionScript are looking for an alternative. We may also be able to help some animators animate with code depending on the types of animations they were doing.

Tomorrow, we will create a transition video to help timeline animators see the potential of code tweens and sprites.

With respect to a UI, as you may remember, at the time of ZIM SIX or so... we started a GUI called ZIM Snips. It was primarily used to build component code based on component settings. Pretty clunky... ZIM Snips and incomplete. We thought that there was no point in rebuilding Flash / Animate.

I do not think we are ready to rebuild a professional animation timeline tool. But maybe we can see where a simple timeline animation builder might lead us. On the other hand, somebody said, they can still use DreamWeaver, even though it has been ended. Maybe industry pressure will let there be some sort of continuing, non-supported version of Adobe Animate.

If you have an adobe account and want to check out our post there - here it is:

We also just prepared a video for Adobe Animators to show the types of animations ZIM can do.

Perhaps head on over to YouTube and give it some love!

Cheers.

And, here is a similar post on the Adobe Animate Discord forum:

I posted BrushNinja https://brush.ninja/ and ZIM as alternative!

So... conclusion - it is basically the same as before but perhaps even more solid. It is officially in maintenance mode with no plans to add new features and no plans to remove it.

Thanks Dan
